About Knitting Chart
Knitting Chart is an independent project that makes free tools for knitters. It started with one question: why do most knitters still chart their colorwork on square graph paper that squashes every motif, or pay a monthly fee to download a chart without a watermark?
So the tools here do the basics properly and keep them free:
- Knitting chart maker — draw colorwork and stitch charts in true stitch proportions, then download a PDF with a color and symbol key and written row-by-row instructions.
- Photo to knitting chart — turn a picture into a colorwork chart and match its colors to your yarn.
- Knitting graph paper — print free graph paper whose squares match your gauge, so motifs drawn by hand keep their shape.
- Knitting chart symbols — what each symbol means on right-side and wrong-side rows, with a printable key.
- How to read a knitting chart — flat and in the round, pattern repeats, increases, decreases and colorwork, with worked examples you can open in the editor.
How it works
Everything runs in your browser. Charts are saved on your own device and photos are converted on your device, so nothing you draw or upload is sent to a server, and there is no account to create.
If you want your charts on every device, the optional Knitting Chart Pro saves them to an account you sign in to with your email, and adds selection tools. It is a one-time payment that keeps the free tools free.
